The word Mathematics comes from the Greek word Mathema, which means ‘learning’, ‘study’, ‘Science’, and additionally came to have the narrower and more technical meaning , “Mathematical Study”. Mathematics plays a vital role in developing the power of logical reasoning and concentration.

joint probability function

Jordan curve
Any continuous  simply  closed curve in the plane, that is , it is simple and closed.

Jordan matrix
A matrix whose diagonal elements are all equal (and nonzero) and whose elements above the principal diagonal are equal to 1, but all other elements are 0.

jump discontinuity
A discontinuity for which the graph steps or jumps from one connected piece of the graph to another. Formally, it is a discontinuity for which the limits from the left and right both exist but are not equal to each other.


Joule : The SI unit of work or energy, defined to be the work done by force of 1 Newton acting to move an object  through a distance of 1 meter in the direction in which the force is applied. The Joule is named after the British Physicist James Prescott Joule (1818 – 1889 ) , who demonstrated the equivalence of mechanical and thermal energy in a famous experiment in 1843.
